1. The Venus Fly Trap
Sure you know it (Super Mario), but have you ever seen it in action? You can check it out here:2. The Shy Plant
The lesser known (?) shy plant (translation from Chinese) or Mimosa Pudica shys away (physically closes and droops) at a slight touch or breeze. To see what I mean you can have a look at this video of two over zealous shy plant hunters.
This post was inspired by my encounter with a shy plant while in Sichuan province. I tickled it until it begged for mercy (sorry, the inner child in me).
Have you ever seen either of these plants in person before? Do you know of any other cool plants that you could introduce? Have you ever tickled a shy plant?

I like the new format, very neato! Also, I had pictured the venus flytrap as snapping shut quickly, not like a yawning motion. I have a few pesky sleepy flies buzzing about the apartment that are being tricksy to hunt down, I wish you could pick up a plant like this at the supermarket!!
I had never heard of the "shy plant" before, what is the reason that it does that? It is super cute! I liked how enthusiastic the documentors were, haha! A plant that I find interesting is the Rafflesia, Which is the world’s biggest flower-it mimics the colour, texture and, er, stench of rotting meat to attract insects. It’s sometimes called the “corpse flower” because of how badly it smells, or the “giant panda of the plant world” because it’s so rare. It can grow to more than a metre across, and only blooms for a few days before shrivelling up into a black, smelly lump.

Awwww! I feel bad for the shy plant - those people need to stop poking it hahah!
As for the VFT - that is a crazy plant. Although,I always assumed it slammed shut to catch insects...this was more of a slow closing.
Very neat.
Two thumbs up, thanks for the info!
I just realized Denise and I posted almost the exact same observation of the VFT!
Sarnwich - I checked out that link. That flower sure does get big. I'm really curious to smell the flower, although it may not lure me in.
Jane - Yes, the poor shy plant does take quite a lot of tickling. Apparently it can be tickled to DEATH. Ah! I didn't know at the time - I swear!
I was also under the impression that the VFT would eat up the fly in one big swoop. I somehow also imagined it chewing it...
Haha, great minds think alike, Jane! I can also see the chewing motion, though it's definitely not because of too many childhood cartoons!
Ah? The shy plant can die because of too much tickling? That's horrible! Poor thing.
